24th Of July Children's Parade

Posted on 4:00 PM by Unknown
The 24th of July in Utah is Pioneer Day. Here is pioneer day in a nutshell thanks to Wikipedia.

Pioneer Day is an official holiday celebrated on July 24 in the U.S. state of Utah, with some celebrations in regions of surrounding states originally settled by Mormon pioneers. It  commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, where the Latter-day Saints settled after being forced from Nauvoo, Illinois, and other locations in the eastern United States. Parades, fireworks, rodeos, and other festivities help commemorate the event. Similar to July 4, most governmental offices and many businesses are closed on Pioneer Day.

The first parade of the day is in the morning and it is called the Children's Parade. It is really short and mostly children participating. My kids haven't been to a parade before so they were a little awestruck at first. At the parades here the participants in the floats throw candy and the street people. It took the kids a little bit to figure out to get the candy. Once they figured it out they were so excited!

Michael waved at everyone in the parade.

A cool horse. It wasn't painted it was a sleeve that they put on the horse.

This was really cool and it was painted.

One of my cousins was driving these.

After the parade we went over to the rodeo grounds and park. We let the kids play at the park for awhile and then we fed them lunch.
